Every challenge here is a running environment, not a paper exercise. A player starts where a real attacker would, holding only what that position carries, and gets as far inward as the terrain and their own moves allow. Consequences are real to the simulation: a tripped turbine, a hijacked prefix, a dashboard still showing green while the process burns. Nothing is scored by a marking scheme; a chain that cannot find its way through the routing fails the way it would fail on a real network.
For the pedagogical case, why well-designed challenges work as learning environments, see CTFs as learning environments.
