Incident response & crisis facilitation

a starling murmuration folding away from a stooping peregrine. Think the Danish Sort Sol (Black Sun) over the Wadden Sea marshes, or the Rome flocks. Thousands as one, no commander.

Most incident response plans are written for a calm, rational team following a clear sequence of steps. Most incidents do not arrive that way. The gap between the plan and the reality is not a training problem, it is a conditions problem. These exercises and playbooks are designed to surface that gap before an incident does: to make the assumptions visible, the authority questions explicit, and the coordination failures cheap. The scenario playbooks are not scripts to follow but environments to fail in safely, so that what the organisation learns about itself costs nothing except time. The same idea runs one level up in Lord Vetinari’s Dilemma, an exercise for the people who set the budget rather than the ones at the console.
